NFL OPENING NIGHT: CHAMPS TAKE ON OWNER WHO SHOOK HIS FIST AT CLOUD, TRADED MICAH PARSONS: Iron Mike digs deeper than most for possible explanations
The NFL season begins tonight in Philadelphia, as the Cowboys face the defending Super Bowl champs. But the big story of the game is about a guy in Green Bay, because still the trade of Micah Parsons to the Packers dominates the internet shout-o-sphere.
In most versions of the ranting, the villain is Cowboy owner Jerry Jones, which he doesn’t really mind because being in the spotlight is better than not being there. It’s not unreasonable that Jerry play that role, and it is in many ways justified: remember it’s been thirty seasons since Dallas won a Super Bowl, and even back then JerJones had forced out coach Jimmy Johnson (his college teammate on a national champion Arkansas team) after two Lombardis and replaced him with Oklahoma’s Barry Switzer, who would pull any of the spotlight toward himself.
Anyone who looks knows the litany of scandal behind Jones the bidnesman and Jones the owner, but be serious, he’s an NFL owner. What’s different now is that he’s now also soon to turn 83, and at times seems to be perceived somewhere between Grandpa Simpson and Joe Biden. The truth to me can be seen as something different.
